The 4th Act Amending the Citizenship Act (StAG) came into force on 20.08.2021. In addition to a comprehensive regulation of, among other things, entitlements for persons persecuted by the Nazi regime and their descendants, which enable the acquisition of German citizenship, further simplifications have been introduced. For example, there is now an explicit entitlement to naturalization after only 6 years of legal residence in Germany if proof of particularly good educational, vocational or professional achievements or civic engagement can be provided. The naturalization of spouses in accordance with ยง 9 StAG has been extended to minor children who have been in Germany for less than 3 years.
