More and more people are coming to Germany to work. As determined by the Federal Statistical Office on the basis of the Central Register of Foreigners, the number of people from non-EU countries has more than tripled since the end of 2011 (+226%). Almost a quarter of these were academic specialists with a “Blue Card”. In addition to a corresponding qualification, a gross annual salary of currently โฌ 56,400 is required for the card to be issued, or โฌ 43,992 in the so-called shortage occupations. The main country of origin is India, followed by Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, China and the USA. The increase in labor migration among workers from EU countries is also significant: An increase of +19% has been recorded here in just 4 years (a total of 1.65 million people according to the microcensus).
