The latecomers Baden-Wรผrttemberg and Lower Saxony have been planning new authorities for some time to alleviate the shortage of skilled workers through targeted immigration. So far, corresponding applications have to be submitted to the locally competent immigration authorities, whereby in Baden-Wรผrttemberg the internal processing of the procedures for health and care professions is already carried out in Stuttgart, and the processing of all other procedures in Karlsruhe. The central office is intended to speed up procedures and offer companies a central point of contact. Lower Saxony will now set up a central immigration authority from the 1st half of 2025, but there is still no fixed start date in Baden-Wรผrttemberg. The aim is to simplify processes, relieve the burden on local authorities and integrate foreign skilled workers into the labour market more quickly and easily through these central offices. According to a recent survey by the Bertelsmann Stiftung, German companies believe that there are not enough staff available in Germany, with about one in five companies looking for staff abroad.
