As a result of the earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria, the Federal Foreign Office has agreed a simplified, pragmatic visa procedure with the Federal Ministry of the Interior and for Home Affairs. This is a visitor visa, which can be granted for a stay of no more than 90 days and can only be extended in exceptional cases.

Contrary to previous announcements, the so-called simplified procedure is currently only aimed at Turkish nationals who were resident in one of the affected provinces at the time of the earthquake and who are understandably and individually particularly affected by the earthquake. According to the Federal Foreign Office, this includes people who are threatened with homelessness or who suffer from injuries requiring treatment.

Relatives in the 1st or 2nd degree (spouse, parents, children, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings) of German citizens or foreigners who are in possession of a permanent residence permit are eligible to apply. A declaration of commitment from the reference person living in Germany is required.
